A very brief history:

Locas In Love was formed in Heidelberg in mid-2001 by Stefanie and Björn as a two-piece. They moved to Cologne the same summer, played their first tour in September and October (with Chick Graning of legendary 90s indie bands Scarce and Anastasia Screamed) and met Niklas in their own living room at a concert in November. The 'Río Veneno' EP was released at the same time, Niklas joined shortly after and they started gigging as a threesome in early 2002.
They put out two more EPs in 2002 ('A robot can make a hole in the ground' in May and 'Musica de la concha' in November) and started attracting more and more attention.
In 2003 a 7" split single with their pals Katze was released and more concerts and tours were played (with The Jayhawks, Nikki Sudden, Long Winters, South San Gabriel and Okkervil River among many others).
2004 saw more touring both headlining and supporting (Xiu Xiu, Friends Of Dean Martinez, Girls in Hawaii etc) and the release of the first longplaying album 'What matters is the poem' in October. It was met by critical acclaim and enabled Locas In Love to play more tours throughout Europe in 2005.

Most of 2006 was spent recording a new album, but Locas In Love also found the time to record and release their self-titled 4-track EP (the one with monkey and deer on the cover) that was intended to be a limited edition but had to be reprinted as it quickly became a fan favourite. The great Scottish band Arab Strap invited the Locas to be their special guest on their German tour in February and again in November when they played their farewell tour. Arab Strap guitarist Malcolm Middleton also contributed some guitar to 'Honeymoon Is Over' on the follow-up LIL album. In October LIL flew to the USA following the invitation to play the Popfest New England and several shows in New York City and also to mix their self-recorded and self-produced album with Peter Katis at his studio in Bridgeport, CT.

'Saurus' was released in February 2007 to raving reviews and instantly became their bestseller. As LIL was quite busy that year with their pop band Karpatenhund they only played select shows, e.g. when The National invited them to open for them (and had the kindness to announce them as "one of our favourite bands to play with" onstage) or shorter tours.

In 2008 they parted ways with their third drummer who had been in the outfit for the longest time and retreated a bit to write and record new material in living rooms in Cologne, Berlin, Bridgeport and Brooklyn and also visited New York again to play live. So, between June and October 2008, a new album was recorded eventually. 'Winter' is a collection of seasonal songs, inspired by the great pop tradition of christmas albums. It was intended to be a single or an EP but once the band started, they were on a roll and made a whole concept album. The recordings took place in Björn & Stef's flat in Cologne and in the house of Julie & Sam of The Leader in Brooklyn- they also contributed to the album as did LD Beghtol, Kyle Resnick and many others.

The constant members of Locas In Love are Stefanie Schrank, Björn Sonnenberg and Jan Niklas Jansen. They have been joined by different drummers, right now Christian Schneider of Grafzahl plays with the band at home and Sam Lazzara of Brooklyn's finest The Leader in the US.

The name Locas In Love has, naturally, been taken from an Hernandez Bros. Love & Rockets book.
